Roofresh + Helping Hands in Africa

So I'm trying a little experiment here, and I would love it if you all would take a minute to help me out. You see I noticed that my little 'followers' section in my sidebar was starting to get close to 100. Now it's always fun to see more people show an interest in your blog, and it is somewhat validating to watch your stats go up from month to month, but that's truly not my reason for starting a blog. While reasons for blogging may change, I think that I can confidently say at this point that my blog is a 'personal blog' and mostly a collection of my life stories, events and things that excite me.

With all of that said, many bloggers chose to do giveaways when they pass big milestones with their readers. For me 100 is a big milestone and I cannot tell you enough how grateful I am for those of you who read my blog and faithfully check-in to see what is going on in my life.  Compared to other blogs, 100 may not be a big number, but I'm quite happy with it. Since I'm just on the cusp of 100, I still want to offer something to recognize this stepping stone, however, giveaways just aren't my style. I know that they are popular, and usually work out well for all parties involved, but it's not a direction that I am wanting to go with my blog at this point in time. Instead, I have decided to do a 'non-giveaway' and make a donation in the name of my blog to an organization which has significance to me and which I have a history of involvement with.
(Sorry for the horrible quality of these)
Helping Hands in Africa is a non-profit organization which provides assistance and relief to communities in South Africa from hot meals, to health care and AIDS assistance and even mental health. I have a personal investment in the organization, because in 2005 I got to go to South Africa for 10 days and see these communities first hand. Our lives seem to become mundane on a daily basis, but some of the people that I spent time with, touched, hugged, and connected with can only dream of a mundane existence.

So here's the plan...

My Part: Once I get to 100 followers, I will donate $50 of my money to Helping Hands in Africa.

Your Part: You have the option of making a pledge, any amount that you want, and over the following month for every follower or new reader via google over 100, a donation will be made to Helping Hands.

Example: I am at 99 readers, and you have pledged to donate 10 cents for every reader over 100. I finally get my #100 reader and for every follower after that you will donate 10 cents. This opportunity will be open for the whole month following my 100-follower-mark and at the end of one month I will tally up the followers and multiply that number by your pledge.

So if I get 64 new followers in that month, you will be making a donation of $6.40 to Helping Hands in Africa.

I will be keeping the names of everyone confidential, but will be accepting pledges via email, and do a progress update every week. At the end of the month, if you sent a pledge, I will email you back with the total amount and you can pay via PayPal. If you would like to do a one time only donation, you can do that as well via PayPal, user name Roofresh@gmail.com.

If you're strapped for cash, you can still play a role in this endeavour, all you have to do is click on 'Follow'!
So this is obviously an experiment. Who knows, I may be the only one donating, but at least Helping Hands in Africa will get an extra $50, and trust me, $50 goes a LONG way there!

I would like to say thank you again for all of you have chosen to read my blog up until now, and even for those of you who are followers of Roofresh on Facebook and Twitter. I really appreciate all of the support!

Keep it real,

Roo

Ps. If you have any additional questions about the donation process or the 'non-giveaway' please feel free to email me at Roofresh{at}Gmail{dot}com
