About Roofresh

My name is Kelsey, not Roofresh, but Roo IS my nickname. I live in the Phoenix area with my husband and we are having fun being newlyweds and going on crazy adventures together. We like finding new hangouts, food, art, music and friends; so that's pretty much what my blog is about. You'll find a bit of fashion, design, nutrition and family sprinkled throughout my content, or anything else that catches my eye at the moment. My blog has changed a lot over the last year, but you'll see that it's really just a record of our lives together; our public journal.

The Things My Mother Left Me {Home Decor Obsession}

As you've probably noticed I love looking for inspiration photos, but not just for fashion, I love looking for inspiration for jewelry, art, photography, home decor, and crafts. I will admit that I have spent HOURS looking on Design Sponge at before and after photos and home decor. I'm really starting to feel like my mother some days as I remember her big basket of Better Homes and Gardens, and Country Living magazines compared to my online blog roll of Design Sponge, Apartment Therapy, and The Nest.

So this post is another tribute to my living mother's love for home decor. It is something that she passed along to me and I happen to love as well. I've posted a series of inspiration photos of rooms that I like...I know it's a little pathetic, but I pretty much found what I want every room of our house to look like...
(Another great use for tissue paper poms!)

Festive Pom Tutorial

Recently I did a post on the bridal shower I threw for my friend Jackie. In order to get my walls un-boring, I made some poms that went along with the colors from their engagement shoot. I promised a tutorial of how I made these, so here we go.

Supplies:
Tissue paper in your color of choice
Fishing wire
Bone folder
Scissors
Cutting mat (not necessary, but can help with measuring)
1. Prep your tissue paper by cutting it into even squares. I did 8 x 8 squares but that is a little small, you might want to start with something a bit bigger. (The smaller the pom, the harder it gets to separate the tissue layers).
2. Fold the paper accordion style back and forth in about 1" strips. If it doesn't line up perfectly that's okay, don't freak out it will still look good.
3. Tie the middle of the folded tissue paper with the fishing wire. Don't tie too tight, if you do it will be harder to separate the pages and they will tear more easily.
4. Cut the ends of the tissue paper so that they are rounded. You can also cut straight, arrow edges if you want pointed ends. It may be hard to cut if it is thick, holding the paper very tight as you cut will help it to cut more accurately.
5. Spread the layers of the paper CAREFULLY. It's very easy to rip the delicate petals, but if you do just keep going because it's easy to fluff up around it and save the pom. Tip: start at the top and instead of pulling on each piece, push it away from the other layers down to the bottom.
6. Continue separating the pieces until the whole pom is fully separated. You might need to work with it a bit when you are done to spruce it up and beautify it.
Do you feel like this helped? Let me know if you make any poms, and take pictures! I want to see!

Keep it real,

Roo

Oh My! {Jackie's 50's Inspired Bridal Shower}

Meet Jackie and Brandon. You might remember them from the story on my Koala ♡ The Oso page, but if you don't, they are good friends of ours. Jim and I are both part of their wedding coming up in April and it was my job to throw the best little bridal shower EVER! So that's what I did.
These cute little place holders were from scrapbook paper made by Cosmo Cricket. It came in a large 12 x 12 sheet and I cut them into individual cards for each plate.
I wanted to have a fun little cocktail for the day, and boy was it fun!
Ingredients: fresh squeezed blood orange juice, plain oj, and Pinnacle whipped vodka.
Mmmmmm.
Gifts. Inside? Cherry Jelly Bellies.
Jacqueline, the bride to be.
Since moving into our new house we haven't had time to decorate ALL of the rooms, so needless to say, we have some blank walls going on. I didn't want to have a bunch of bare walls and empty space during the shower, so I improvised and made these poms and hung them via fishing wire from the staircase.
These poms were handmade...this was a PROCESS. It is my understanding that there are kits to make these, well I did it from scratch. Once you get through a couple it makes it easier, but don't worry...I have a play-by-play tutorial coming soon.
Well I had a lot of fun putting all of this together. With Jackie and Brandon's great photo session for inspiration, the colors and ideas for this little shin-dig were easy to come up with! If you want to see more of the Sloans click here, and as for Jackie she sings and has some great videos that you can check out here.

If you liked those poms, sit tight, I'll be posting a tutorial later this week.

What did you think? Jackie's super cute right? What's your favorite part of bridal showers? Let me know!

Keep it real,

Roo
