About Roofresh

My name is Kelsey, not Roofresh, but Roo IS my nickname. I live in the Phoenix area with my husband and we are having fun being newlyweds and going on crazy adventures together. We like finding new hangouts, food, art, music and friends; so that's pretty much what my blog is about. You'll find a bit of fashion, design, nutrition and family sprinkled throughout my content, or anything else that catches my eye at the moment. My blog has changed a lot over the last year, but you'll see that it's really just a record of our lives together; our public journal.

Fashion Cambio - {Mucho Mucho Bueno Bueno}

Sorry that this post is a day late, things have been a bit hectic for us! Well better late than never, and I've got an awesome sister duo for you today! This Fashion Cambio comes from the rad Mucho Mucho Bueno Bueno team; you may remember Brandi from this post. I have to say that I am super inspired by their eclectic looks; they just wear what they feel good in and that's what I decided to do for my version. I took elements from their style and applied it to my outfit, instead of exactly mimicking theirs I took bits and pieces from a few of their photos. So here are the images that I drew my inspiration from...
Brandi is famous for always having the perfect white tee. I agree that every closet needs a perfect white tee and my outfit consisted of a few MMBB staples: perfect white tee, favorite cut off shorts, sneakers, a long necklace, straw fedora, and knee-high socks.

{Hat} Brixton, from my hubby's side of the closet
{Shirt} Threads4Thought, Nordstrom Rack
{Sweatshirt} Johnny Cupcakes last year
{Shorts} Homemade from lucky jeans
{Socks} American Apparel
{Shoes} Airwalks (because Converse hurt my fat feet)
{Necklace} Homemade combo of chain from old broken necklace and charm that my mama gave me when I was little
{Earrings} Giftshop at Mandalay Bay

We took these photos at the park because right before we left the house I said "my outfit makes me feel like a little kid because I literally put on everything that was my 'favorite' regardless of if I thought it matched." I think the look came together but it definately gave me a bit more confidence wearing an outfit consisting of all of my favorite things.

Mucho Mucho Bueno Bueno:

1. If your house was on fire and you only had time to grab one item from your closet, your favorite "I can't live without it" item, what would it be?
This was a hard one...but I would have to say...
-My Black (Hurley) leather jacket. It's so hard to find that perfect fit. It was a Gift from my Dad 4 years ago.

2. Briefly describe one outfit that makes you feel the most confident and why.
-My perfect White Tee (loose fitting), Faded Black Jeggings, Bueno Bueno feather dangle, Toms shoes or vans slip ons, Aviators, My LV, Messy hair:).
I know it's not glamorous at all but that's ME.
I like being comfortable. If I'm not comfortable, I am not happy.

*oh and I am totally not a LV girl but Jacob got it for me in Paris while we were there and said that our daughter would want a vintage LV to be passed down to her. Smart man.

3. Boots, pumps, flats, or flips?
- This is my order.
BAREFOOT. flats, boots, flip flops,.....heels if I have too.

I have to say that I LOVE these girls' style and I love their shop too! They sell awesome custome key necklaces and feather accessories and I WANT THEM ALL!

Hope you had fun reading this edition! I had a LOT of fun creating it. Make sure to check out the Bueno sister's blog, it's so entertaining!

Keep it real,

Roo

It's the End!

I know this is kind of cheesy, but fitting, since tomorrow is the first day of 2011. I'm doing my list of the top 10 things that were awesome in 2010. I won't make you do a lot of reading since you're either on your way to a party, waking up from partying or reading just isn't on your new year's resolution list.

1. No School
For the first time in my life since I was 4, I didn't have to go back to school after Christmas break.

2. Wedding Invite
Jim and I made the most awesome wedding video invite, which you can watch here.

3. Johnny Cupcakes
We had the pleasure of entertaining one of our favorite T-Shirt brand creator, Johnny Earle while he was in town. We got to have dinner with him on a couple of occasions and it was really fun to get to know him and spend one-on-one time with him.

4. Gettin' Hitched
Well, pretty self explanatory.

5. Bought a House
We bucked-up and went through a pretty stressful ordeal, but we bought our first home together!

6. San Diego
I hadn't been on a road trip with my sister in years, but when Jim and I told her we were going to San Diego she was a trooper and packed her bags last minute and came along. It was a great trip with lots of fun memories!

7. I Started a Blog!

8. Hosted Thanksgiving/Got a Table!
That's right, I was a big girl this year.

9. Family Reunion
For my grandmother's 80th birthday, my family came from all over the US to help her celebrate. I hadn't seen some of my cousins in 10+ years! It was a real treat!

10. Tattooooooos
Here's a teaser of one of my two tattoos. I know I haven't shared them on the blog, so I'll explain what this means in 2011....

A RooFresh Wedding - Engagement Photos

Engagement Photos

Every bride or couple has a list of priorities starting with the most important (the one you will probably spend the most $$$ on), to the not as important or items you choose to either plan a DIY, skimp on, or go without. Don't get me wrong, some of our DIY stuff was my favorite part of our wedding, but the three things I wasn't trusting to my own hands, or taking lightly were the dress, the food, and photography.  First off, I wouldn't know where to start with making my own dress or having a custom dress made, and I wouldn't even try to make the food or a cake like some amazing brides do, but as far as our photographers go, I wouldn't have accepted anything other than Sloan Photographers

{Family photo taken of them by Amelia Lyon Photography}

We loooove the Sloans, they are a husband and wife photography team and the cutest family in the world! I found them on a vendor's list from Green Wedding Shoes and after looking at their website (and finding out they were in my state at the time), I sent Matt a message about how interested I was in hiring them and told them what my budget was. A few weeks later Jim and I met with Matt, and what was supposed to be a quick consult turned into an hour+ conversation about music, art and everything else under the sun! I think we talked about wedding photography for about, hmmm 15 minutes?

The Sloans did a great job working with us and getting our needs met, but beyond that built a great relationship with us. I feel that it is so important to build a comfortable relationship all of your vendors but especially your photographers. They're the ones that are going to capture your feelings and if you don't have great feelings towards them too, I think it shows.

A few weeks after our first meeting we met up again for our engagement session. We had an idea that we would like to go to Phoenix in the art district to take some photos amidst graffiti art. We both love art and it is part of what connects us but Jim especially loves graffiti art. For props we brought our handy dandy clown noses and our classic, black stretch bike.

We had a few costume changes, but here were some of our AMAZING shots...

{This picture is a little awkward looking, but it was way more entertaining than the other one in front of this backdrop!}

That's pretty much it. Then we went to Cibo (a whole 'nother blog post) with Matt and had yummy antipasti and pizza!

Bottom line, your photographer is going to make all of your planning last forever. I totally miss our big day all of the time, but I'm so glad that we invested in our photos and we now have rad pictures that I can always look back on!

(Part II of the Sloan's will be on a later post with all the best day-of shots.)
