About Roofresh

My name is Kelsey, not Roofresh, but Roo IS my nickname. I live in the Phoenix area with my husband and we are having fun being newlyweds and going on crazy adventures together. We like finding new hangouts, food, art, music and friends; so that's pretty much what my blog is about. You'll find a bit of fashion, design, nutrition and family sprinkled throughout my content, or anything else that catches my eye at the moment. My blog has changed a lot over the last year, but you'll see that it's really just a record of our lives together; our public journal.

Crappy + Happy Friday!

{Shirt: Old Navy, Jacket: Forever 21, Jeans: Forever21, Shoes: Kohl's, Purse: Ebay}

I tried a new editing technique for the photos today, what do you guys think? New way or old way? Srsly, be honest. Well the post for today is a modification of Awesome and Awkward Thursday and I decided to stretch it a bit and do a little play on words with 'Crappy + Happy Friday!' We'll try it and if you like it I'll keep it up. So here we go!

C: Having to do dishes out of your bathtub for 6+ months O.G. style, like you're camping in your own house.
H: Getting new counter tops and a functional sink last month!

C: Laying in bed for almost five days straight with the sickness.
H: Making it through all 2 1/2 seasons of the Vampire Diaries!

H: Seeing someone going into my building that I can sneak in behind at 6:30 in the morning because I forgot my badge.
C: Getting the 3rd degree from Mrs. 5th floor about never having seen me before and noting that I didn't have my badge (the ONE time I forgot it).

Did you see how I did that, it can go crappy first or happy first, you just never know.

H: Getting an Apple Time Capsule with extra storage to hopefully speed up my computer.
C: I think it's running slower now.

C: Gecko Grill closing down and us finding out about it months later. (Very devastating news!)
H: There is no happy side to this. EVER.

H: Finally activating my Pinterest account that I requested last year.
C: Finally activating my Pinterest account that I requested last year...and losing all of the free time I had left.

I hope you're all having a happy Friday! Tell me if you want to see more posts like this!

Keep it real,
Roo

Dreaming of Fall

I absolutely love living in Arizona, but I have to admit that as I get older I don't always want to be pool-side or running around in a swim suit. I still love some pool time every now and again, but the heat gets old. I've found that my sense of style has matured and I have a lot of fun with fashion now, including layering. Well, layering is not very easy to do in 110 degree weather; actually you would probably get heat stroke if you tried.

It's usually around this time of year that I start to get antsy. Everyone else is gearing up for school and well, we've already dove in head first. The usual associations of back to school and fall clothing is somewhat of a 'only on T.V.' concept for us zonies because all fall clothing is our winter clothing. We see other blogs change with the season and fashion evolves as the cool temperatures roll in, but we don't even see the 80's in Phoenix till late October.

Enough complaining! I'm going to share a few winter-y outfits from some of my favorite blogs, and you can drool over them with me.

Now this would definitely be a winter outfit for us, in fact, I might not get to wear something like this all year. Only in our coldest winters do I get to partake in things like fluffy vests!

Tights and sweaters; all I'm gonna say.

Boots! Glorious boots! See you in two and a half months!

Some people categorize this as a SUMMER outfit. HA! No my friends, this cannot be an Arizona ensemble until at least October 15th, maybe later. I LOVE the knee-high-boot combo!

So when does your fall start? Are you more fortunate than I? What is your go-to fall article of clothing?

Roo

Fashion Cambio {San Diego Weather}

I'm so excited to start doing Fashion Cambio posts again. Reminder: cambio means change and this is my way of showing inspiration and how I change it to fit my closet. I was so excited when we went to San Diego last month because I could actually wear a sweater! It really isn't possible, not even at night, to wear anything but shorts in Phoenix until about late October. Wearing a sweater IN JULY was a real treat!

Fashion Cambio - {Mrs. Mustard}

Eek! Getting photos for Fashion Cambio has been a rough task lately...Both not having time to look for inspiration and not having time to take outfit photos! Although it's been a challenge, I've really missed doing FC posts lately. For my FC this week I wore a sweater that I've been OBSESSED with and have probably been over-wearing. Oh well. I wish it were still acceptable as an adult to wear the same thing every day and not get weird looks from people (and no, I don't wash in between every wear either!)

For those who are new Roofresh readers, Fashion Cambio is a segment where I find an inspiration photo with some kind of article of clothing similar to one that I have, and based off of the inspiration I try to recreate the outfit as best as possible. I only use clothes that I already have in my closet to stretch my resources. I was pretty much doing this anyway on a daily basis when I felt that I had old boring clothes and nothing to wear, so that I wouldn't feel like I had to run out to the store and purchase a whole new outfit. Now I just blog it too...
(I LOVE street fashion)
Sometimes I like to do a combo look, so that's what this is...
Yellow is so much fun!

{Sweater} Urban Outfitters, recently
{Shirt} Forever 21
{Shorts} Eek, I think Forever21, last year
{Sandals} Charolotte Russe, last year
{Earrings} Forever 21, about 3 years ago
{Belt} My mama's closet

Fashion Cambio - {The Domestication of the Tutu}

I had a mission for this week's Fashion Cambio, and it wasn't just to make the best recreation of an awesome outfit, it was to master the tutu. We're all in love with the Carrie Bradshaw tutu and the newer Black Swan tutu, but are those realistic?

For my wedding I actually purchased a white tutu for the 'after party' that we had with some of our bridal party. Basically the reception ended at 11:00 and we all headed over to Aloft hotel to keep our party going. I was not about to hang out the rest of the night in a gigantic wedding dress (even though it was awesome), so I purchased my little white tutu from Ouma's Etsy store.

I got a lot of compliments on it, but after the night was over I had no idea what I was going to do with it. It has sat in my closet looking pretty on a hanger for 10 months now. Both Jim and one of my friends recently brought it up and asked why I didn't wear it anymore, my answer?.....I'm not Carrie Bradshaw and I don't live in New York City. My point? It's pretty hard to pull off an article of clothing that draws that much attention, let alone accessorize and manage not to look emo-chic or like you're on your way to the ballet.

So without further ado, the domesticated tutu!
{Shirt} Forever 21
{Jacket} Forever 21
{Belt} I don't remember, but I think it came with a shirt
{Tutu} Ouma
{Shoes} Target
{Silver Bracelet} Forever 21
{White Bracelet} My mom
{Turquoise Bracelet} Actually a necklace that I got from my grandma's garage sale
{Necklace} From a broken necklace set

So what do you think? Did I do it? Did I make the tutu wear-able? Would you wear this in public? I will say that it takes a bit of confidence to pull it off, but I've always felt that you can pull off whatever outfit you feel like you can pull off, as long as you feel good in it.

I hope you like!

So this was kind of a little tease, I don't have a real Fashion Cambio to make up for not having one last weekend, but I do have funny pictures of my husband. You see, he takes his role as 'husband of a blogger' very seriously and insists on taking all of the photos for my outfit posts....not really, but he does complain a lot less now and actually gets into it a little bit with telling me how to stand and trying different angles.

Anyway, he may be getting all creative on me with the shots that he takes, but I'm still a control freak when it comes to all of the settings on the camera; hence the sample photos. This is a little collection of all of the sample photos that I've taken of Jim, pre-outfit shoot, to make sure that I like the settings that the camera is on. Fancy huh?

He is just so miserable cute in the middle one, I die. I have to say, I am one lucky woman. He is so sweet to me and would do anything for me, and I have proof! What does your loved one/significant other do for you (that they hate) that makes you love them more?

Fashion Cambio - {Life As We Know It}

So you might have noticed that the 'Blogger Edition' is now gone from Fashion Cambio...yes it is officially over...but that doesn't mean that it can't come back! If you are a blogger with a fashion section and are interested in participating in the future, just hit me up (email me) and we can look at a few different outfits to possibly feature to bring it back.

The new jump off to Fashion Cambio is inspired by a movie that I recently watched called "Life as We Know It" with Katherine Heigl. I feel a little nerdy admitting it, but I loved the movie and her clothes in it! Everything was simple and put together, and Katherine seemed to have a lot of closet basics that made up her wardrobe, (I talk like she picked it all out herself!)

Here are some shots of her clothes from the movie (it was hard to get really great shots, so you may have to just watch it yourself).
These are all very cute looks, but not great shots, so I went with the DVD cover. :)
Look! I do have a butt! Proof!
Okay, so this very pretty tree in my friend Becky's back yard was SWARMING with bees, hence my face.
No I'm not running away from the bees, this is just my horrible improvisation.
...aaaaaaand it didn't get that much better...
{Under Shirt} Threads4Though, Nordstrom's Rack (Best. Shirt. Evar!)
{Paid Shirt} Ummm, in all honesty it was a little store outside of my parent's old house with
Forever 21-y clothes. I think it was called Styles for Less?
{Jeans} Charlotte Russe
{Motorcycle Boots} Target, just a couple of months ago, if you hurry you may be able to find some on a clearance rack near you!
{Watch} Fossil, Birthday present from my mama (and dad)

So what did you think of these photos? Pretty rad editing huh? Well I can't take the credit, remember Lauren from Busy Bee Lauren? Well she did a photo editing tutorial that I am in L O V E with and you can check it out right here if you want to be rad like us too. ;)

What did you think of Fashion Cambio this time around? What do you want to see more of? Let me know!

Keep it real,

Roo
