About Roofresh

My name is Kelsey, not Roofresh, but Roo IS my nickname. I live in the Phoenix area with my husband and we are having fun being newlyweds and going on crazy adventures together. We like finding new hangouts, food, art, music and friends; so that's pretty much what my blog is about. You'll find a bit of fashion, design, nutrition and family sprinkled throughout my content, or anything else that catches my eye at the moment. My blog has changed a lot over the last year, but you'll see that it's really just a record of our lives together; our public journal.

Fashion Cambio {Chelsea Bird}

This week is week #2 of "Fashion Cambio, Blogger Edition." I come to you with Chelsea from the pretty little blog "Tea Talk." Chelsea is an Arizonan as well and is a fine little journalist, fashion blogger, and adventurer. She always happens to snap pictures at my favorite hangouts as well; we have both have great taste!

It was so cold out this day, and I was seriously concentrating on not crying!
I was trying to get a cool shot of my tattoo, unfortunately my radius and ulna got in the way...

So I decided that I wear these boots a lot..the funny thing is I think it's been for Fashion Cambio, more than any other day. Oh well, they're cute! I didn't have a cute little cream jacket like Chelsea so substituted for my knit sweater from my last Fashion Cambio with Lauren. I have to say that I still love her flower a little more than mine, but handmade is always better. Check out where she got her perfect yellow flower from: oh my deer etsy shop

Chelsea:
1. If your house was on fire and you only had time to grab one item from your closet, your favorite "I can't live without it" item, what would it be?
-Oh man, this is a tough one, however, I think I would have to go with my Tiffany's charm bracelet that Scott bought me for our first anniversary. It has the sweetest inscription on it, and the charms that he has added to it over the years make me remember all of the special moments we've had together these past four years.

2. Briefly describe one outfit that makes you feel the most confident and why.
-For me, I think the outfit changes for the kind of situation I'm in. If I'm going on an interview, I feel best when wearing a nice blouse, cardigan, pencil skirt, and flats. When I wan to feel good about myself because I'm going out on a special date, I feel best in a pretty dress, tights, flats, necklaces & rings, and usually do a cardigan as well (because I'm always cold).

3. Boots, pumps, flats, or flips?
-Boots for sure! However, living in Arizona it's not always easy to wear boots out and about in the summer or early fall, so then I usually stick to flats, boat shoes, oxfords, or sandals.

I love Chelsea's cardigan, oxford, scarf-wearing, prim and proper sense of style. She puts outfits together with just the right touch of quirkiness and accessories-a real fashion-forward thinker! She involves her beau in her fashion posts as well which is just charming...maybe I can get JB to join in mine some day. ;)

Keep it real,

Roo

Ps. Chelsea, I'm ALWAYS cold too!

Fashion Cambio - {Busy Bee Lauren}

Fashion Cambio is BACK! I took a few weeks off for the holidays, but I'm really excited to show you what I've been cookin' up!

First up in the Blogger Fashion Cambio is Lauren of Busy Bee Lauren. Lauren is from right here in AZ and has a fantastic blog that you should check out here.
(I have to warn you that we got a little artsy with the next few sets of photos. What can I say, Jim is just getting to be a better photographer.)
I like to call this one, "Senior Portrait" by Jim.

{Dress} Romy, last summer

So I was going to wear a cute little hat like Lauren's, but after taking just a few pictures in it I wasn't feeling it. It looks great on her...me, not so much. Meh.

I worked on taking aspects of her outfit, mostly the colors and floral print to put something together that reflected her style. I love this quote from her post on this outfit, I 100% agree with it and it's probably why I was drawn to choosing this outfit:

"i am a rebel. i do not care about the "don't wear black with brown" rule. i think it's stupid. so here i am fully embracing it. i think breaking rules is important. i mean, who made these rules anyway? i think you should wear what makes you feel pretty, and awesome."

Lauren is awesome.

Lauren:

Are you not jealous of her hair!?!

1. If your house was on fire and you only had time to grab one item from your closet, your favorite "I can't live without it" item, what would it be?

Oh gosh, this is a super tough one! But I think I would have to go with my vintage maxi dress. It's definitely a dress I don't wear anything else with, including jewelry because it is just too much of a stunner to have other items competing with it. I am so thankful I found it at a vintage thrift store in Tucson! I have had a few people offer to buy it off me, but I have to graciously decline.

2. Briefly describe one outfit that makes you feel the most confident and why.

I feel most confident in a great vintage dress, a fun pair of shoes, and messy waved hair. Sometimes I like to even throw a blazer in the mix, to add some contrast. I think embracing feminineness is empowering.

3. Boots, pumps, flats, or flips?

Gah! I can't decide! I really do love me some boots with skinny jeans, but vintage pumps are probably my absolute favorite

Lauren and I have something in common, we both love the Sloans! This is their handy work (the same photographers that did our wedding/engagement shoot), and this is Lauren in her fantastic maxi dress.

Well I had a lot of fun with this post. If you enjoyed meeting Lauren or even seeing other Fashion Cambio's, please, speak up and let me know!

Keep it real,

Roo

Fashion Cambio - {Black and Blue}

Today's inspiration picture is via The Sartorialist. I get a lot of my outfit ideas from this blog because it never ceases to amaze me with its fresh photos and random out-of-the-box outfits. I didn't think black and blue was an acceptable combo-in fact I wore it in high school once and my friend said I looked like a bruise-but after seeing this photo I decided that I still like it.

Don't blink, you might miss me! ;)

Fashion Cambio - {Winter Scarf}

This Fashion Cambio is inspired by stylist Alex Evjen's blog, Ave Styles. I love her take on fashion and style and I liked this inspiration photo because it was so simple, and the scarf added so much. Now I don't have black leather pants, so I improvised, but I think it still turned out to be a cute and versatile look.

Since there was not bottom half to this inspiration photo, I made up my own look.
Oh, and don't forget to check out my teeth. (I need to stop making this face...)

Is It Fall Yet?

Being from Arizona, I, like many others am somewhat clueless to what fall is really like. It's now October 7th and we've barely gotten into "below 100's weather." I know that fall is supposed to have colors changing, leaves falling, pumpkin picking and bundling up with hot cider or coco; and while we can pick pumpkins at this time of year, I fear that it's just not the same in a pair of shorts and a tank top. So when I think of fall I have a list of items that I can't wait to break out with and enjoy as soon as the thermometer hits the 70's.

Bulky Scarves/Sweaters

Even though I live in a state where the heat is sweltering, I think I would still wear these until I passed out.

My Steve Madden Boots

I love, love, love my Madden Girl boots! They go with almost anything I can think of and I get more compliments with those than I think any other article of clothing I have. Also, I found mine at DSW for $40 so it makes it that much better every time I slip them on. :)

Quilts

I will admit that I would use a heavy blanket year-round if my husband would let me. Somehow, when we are in the bed room trying to go to sleep, I always end up searching for my hubby's feet with mine and am sadly disappointed when I find that he's so hot he's not even under the covers. So when it finally gets cool enough out where he lets me use the down comforter or bust out the quilt I am oh so happy. (Not to mention that quilts are so pretty and festive looking!)

Bikes!

Riding your bike or doing any other outdoor activities are pretty much restricted to October-April, May if you're lucky in Arizona. If you're one of those people, you can wake up at 4:00am and go for a hike-but that is NOT me. Ahem, this is my Mr. :)

Coffee, Coco and Cider (Oh My!)

I am fortunate that I can drink coffee all year round because I like it hot or cold (ha ha, I know, it's just coffee). It is really nice though to be able to spice it up and have a wide variety of warm treats to start off the holidays! I like to mix it up with lattes, caramel apple cider, hot coco (maybe some mini mallows if I'm feeling feisty), you name it!

Cabin

I'm gonna be honest, I would love to say that I go up to our cabin every year for fall, but that doesn't exist. I saw this picture though and to me it wraps up a feeling of fall. This looks like what I want my fall to feel like!

What makes fall for you? Is there a tradition, clothing, food, people, activities, or maybe just a song that makes you think of fall?
