My name is Kelsey, not Roofresh, but Roo IS my nickname. I live in the Phoenix area with my husband and we are having fun being newlyweds and going on crazy adventures together. We like finding new hangouts, food, art, music and friends; so that's pretty much what my blog is about. Dreaming of Fall

I absolutely love living in Arizona, but I have to admit that as I get older I don't always want to be pool-side or running around in a swim suit. I still love some pool time every now and again, but the heat gets old. I've found that my sense of style has matured and I have a lot of fun with fashion now, including layering. Well, layering is not very easy to do in 110 degree weather; actually you would probably get heat stroke if you tried. 

It's usually around this time of year that I start to get antsy. Everyone else is gearing up for school and well, we've already dove in head first. The usual associations of back to school and fall clothing is somewhat of a 'only on T.V.' concept for us zonies because all fall clothing is our winter clothing. We see other blogs change with the season and fashion evolves as the cool temperatures roll in, but we don't even see the 80's in Phoenix till late October. 

Enough complaining! I'm going to share a few winter-y outfits from some of my favorite blogs, and you can drool over them with me.

The Things My Mother Left Me - {Holiday Hostess}

{Are you ready for the holidays yet?}

Since I can remember, I have always grown up in a home where holidays were a big deal. I remember my mom decorating and prepping days, weeks, or even months in advance sometimes! It was all planned out to the smallest detail, and I remember loving helping her set up the night or two before. I knew it was holiday time when I would wake up in the morning and walk into the family room or dining room and see a set table with centerpieces, plate ware, the works!

So you can see where I would get my desire to obsess over having Thanksgiving at our house for the first time. It's kind of a big deal. Soooo, we had some work cut out for us. If you follow me on Twitter or Facebook you might have seen me make a comment about something I called "Table Day," which is me referring to the greatest day ever (other than my wedding day of course). Jim and I have been searching the globe for the perfect table-right color, size, quality, price, etc.-and while we paid a little more than we wanted to in the end we really did get an awesome "Last Supper" style table. We needed something quite large to help house the crowd this Thursday and hopefully for years to come.

Therefore, here is me being like my mom; table runner, plates, glasses, napkins, centerpieces...the works.

I used burlap as a table runner-you have to be careful because it can be kind of messy-I let mine air out for a few days too (smells a little musty, but no one should be able to smell it over the delicious meal).

"Infamous" always makes me think of "The Three Amigos" if you know what I'm talking about.

And of course I would not end this without including a DIY tutorial on folding your napkins...

Start with a basic paper napkin, color of your choice (obviously).

{Step one} Unfold the napkin completely and lay flat

{Step two} Fold the top corner of  side to the center and crease, kind of like you used to do with these guys.

{Step three} Flip tha' whole thing over!

{Step four} Repeat step two but now on this side.

{Step five} While holding down the middle, delicately pull the flap from the underneath side of the napkin, one side at a time. You will probably have to mess with it a little and lightly tug on some of the edges.

{Step six} Continue tweaking until all four side are done and you are satisfied with the symmetry. 
(psst, I think the second one looks like deer ears:)

{Final touches} If you would like you can put something to weigh down the center and keep your little flowers from flying away; I chose a little peanut butter cup from Trader Joe's.
Also, if you would like them to be a little smaller you can always repeat step two before you flip the napkin over.

Well there you have it, all of my admitted secrets of me being a perfectionist like my mom. Jim keeps making fun of me saying that this Thanksgiving is my "coming out" party. First I had to figure out what he was talking about and then I had to argue that I'm not being anal about it all, "I just want things to look nice."

Sedona Images

These are some interesting shots {via iPhone} of our recent trip to Sedona, AZ. There were so many different forms of artwork there, and trust me, if I made the money some of it would have come home with us. A few of these are just us being goofy...well, ourselves. I hope you enjoy!

Is It Fall Yet?

Being from Arizona, I, like many others am somewhat clueless to what fall is really like. It's now October 7th and we've barely gotten into "below 100's weather." I know that fall is supposed to have colors changing, leaves falling, pumpkin picking and bundling up with hot cider or coco; and while we can pick pumpkins at this time of year, I fear that it's just not the same in a pair of shorts and a tank top. So when I think of fall I have a list of items that I can't wait to break out with and enjoy as soon as the thermometer hits the 70's.

Even though I live in a state where the heat is sweltering, I think I would still wear these until I passed out.

I love, love, love my Madden Girl boots! They go with almost anything I can think of and I get more compliments with those than I think any other article of clothing I have. Also, I found mine at DSW for $40 so it makes it that much better every time I slip them on. :)

I will admit that I would use a heavy blanket year-round if my husband would let me. Somehow, when we are in the bed room trying to go to sleep, I always end up searching for my hubby's feet with mine and am sadly disappointed when I find that he's so hot he's not even under the covers. So when it finally gets cool enough out where he lets me use the down comforter or bust out the quilt I am oh so happy. (Not to mention that quilts are so pretty and festive looking!)

Riding your bike or doing any other outdoor activities are pretty much restricted to October-April, May if you're lucky in Arizona. If you're one of those people, you can wake up at 4:00am and go for a hike-but that is NOT me. Ahem, this is my Mr. :)

Coffee, Coco and Cider (Oh My!)


I am fortunate that I can drink coffee all year round because I like it hot or cold (ha ha, I know, it's just coffee). It is really nice though to be able to spice it up and have a wide variety of warm treats to start off the holidays! I like to mix it up with lattes, caramel apple cider, hot coco (maybe some mini mallows if I'm feeling feisty), you name it!

I'm gonna be honest, I would love to say that I go up to our cabin every year for fall, but that doesn't exist. I saw this picture though and to me it wraps up a feeling of fall. This looks like what I want my fall to feel like!
